WE App User Guide

Welcome to the WE App! This guide explains how to use the platform for collaborative decision-making.

Understanding Levels

The WE App organizes content by different levels of community scale. Choose the most appropriate level for your content:

  • Residential Building - For decisions within your building or apartment complex
  • Work/Study - For workplace or educational decisions and organization
  • Street - For your street or block issues
  • Neighborhood - For neighborhood-wide decisions
  • City and Above - For wider community decisions
  • Around Me - Discover decisions and polls based on your current geographic location
  • By Topic - Browse content organized by specific topics or interests using tags
  • Private Group - For invited members only with restricted access
Pro Tip

Choose the smallest relevant level for your content. For example, use "Residential Building" for issues that only affect your building, rather than "Neighborhood."

Adding & Verifying Your Address

Some content is shared based on where you live or work. To take part in those areas — and to create content in them — you add your address and confirm you are really there.

Where to add your address

Open Settings from the menu and go to the Location Preferences section. You can set a Residential Address and a Work/Study Address.

Setting your address

  • Search for your address or move the pin on the map to your exact spot.
  • Adjust the pin until it sits precisely on your building.
  • Once selected, a verification card appears below the map.

Verifying you are there

Verification uses your device's location to confirm you are actually at the address you selected:

  • Tap "Verify My Location" and allow your device to share your location when asked.
  • For this to work, you need to be physically at the address, with location access turned on.
  • It works best outdoors or near a window, where your device gets a clearer location signal.

How you know it worked

When it succeeds, you see a "Location verified successfully" message and a green "Verified" badge on your address. Your verified address is then saved.

If verification does not succeed

  • Too far from the address — try again when you are actually there.
  • Weak location signal — move outdoors or near a window and try again.
  • Location access blocked — turn on location permission for your browser or device, then retry.
  • The place doesn't match your selected address — double-check the address and pin are correct.

Tip: If you are on a desktop computer and it will not verify, log in on your phone while you are at the address. Once verified, it carries over to all your devices.

Good to know: A verified address stays valid for a while and then asks to be confirmed again. There are also limits on how often you can change an address, so set it carefully.

Using Tags

Tags help organize and find content by topic:

  • Add relevant tags when creating content
  • Filter content by tags to find related items
  • Follow tags to get notifications about topics you care about
  • Combine tags with levels for precise content discovery

Example: A proposal about "Creating a community garden" might use tags like
Environment

, and

.

Pro tip: Use consistent tagging conventions across your community for better organization

Understanding Analytics

The WE App provides analytics for documents to help understand engagement and impact:

  • Track views, voting rates, and engagement time.
  • See how different parts of a document are interacted with through heatmaps.
  • Understand voter demographics (if privacy settings allow).
  • Analyze trends to improve future proposals and communication.
  • Compare different versions of documents to see what changes gained support.

You can explore how WE works and view public decisions at the World level without signing in.

To take part in decisions, or to reach other levels and communities, you'll need to sign in.

Levels tied to where you live, work or study — from your building up to your continent — open once you add your address and complete a short location verification.

World and Private Groups need no location at all, and Around Me simply uses your device's current position.
